Prof Milan Carsky

Professor Emeritus

Prof Milan Carsky is registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) . He is also the member of the South African Institution of Chemical Engineers, and Czech Society of Chemical Engineers. He specialises with main topics in teaching and research fields, and are as follow:
 
Main Topics in Teaching:
  • Unit Operations of Chemical Engineering,
  • Separation processes (multicomponent and binary absorption, extraction and distillation, adsorption, membranes)
  • Process safety management, Safety Engineering, hazard evaluation procedures, hazardous chemicals, industrial toxicology
  • Particle Technology, Solid-Fluid systems (e.g. Fluidisation, Sedimentation, Filtration, Crystallisation, etc.),
  • Heat and Mass Transfer
  • Chemical Engineering design.
 
Main Topics in Research:
  • Fluidised bed hydrodynamics, particle mixing and/or segregation in fluidised beds, Design and development of industrial-scale fluidised bed boilers and incinerators (thermal destruction of waste lubricants),
  • High temperature processes at drying, pyrolysis, gasification and combustion of coal and biomass, desulphurization of flue gases at coal combustion, chemistry and physics of sorbents, Activated carbon technology, Activation of carbon from various precursors,
  • Artificial intelligence in complex chemical, bioengineering and biomedical processes,
  • Liquid-liquid extraction
  • He is the Editor in Chief of the South African Journal of Chemical Engineering and a member of the organizing committee of the International Fluidisation South Africa conference (IFSA).
