Africa Melane is joined by Dr Justin Pringle, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Hydraulics & Environmental Fluid Mechanics, School of Engineering at the University of KwaZulu Natal (Howard) to talk about his opinion piece on how early warnings for floods in South Africa can prevent future destruction. Dr Justin says that predicting flooding is not a new concept and consists of two methods of predicting when floods are supposed to hit.

Severe weather, rain and flooding are at the forefront of the minds of many South Africans, especially those in KwaZulu-Natal. Early last week (11-12 April 2022), the province’s coast received heavy rain, with some areas recording over 300mm in 24 hours.
