Biography
Doctor Christian Basson is a member a co-supervisor of the Mechatronics and Robotics Research Group (MR2G). He earned his BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the North-West University, followed by MScEng and PhDEng from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is also a PrEng registered at ECSA. He lectures and specialises in the strength of materials stream. Prior to academia, Doctor Basson has worked in industry performing maritime engineering and naval architecture and is a member of SAIMENA (South African Institute of Maritime Engineering and Naval Architecture).
His main research interests are robotics, predictive maintenance and fault diagnostics of rotating machinery. He is a member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and performs cross-disciplinary research and development work in the fields of water and energy. He is also conducting research in wind energy engineering and the analysis of fatigue and damage of structures.
