Dr. Kirkman completed his BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He furthered his studies at Stellenbosch University where he earned a PhD degree in Industrial Engineering, before returning to UKZN as a postdoctoral researcher and more recently as a lecturer.
His research is focused on additive manufacturing using composite materials, a field which incorporates mechatronics, robotics, material science and process development.
