We’re pleased to share the first edition of the MAGNETISE newsletter with the University of KwaZulu-Natal community!

MAGNETISE — Mainstreaming Gender Equality in SSA Academia — is an EU-funded project supporting five universities in South Africa and Uganda, including UKZN, to strengthen gender equality through institutional policies and practical action.

📰 This inaugural edition highlights workshops across partner universities, where staff, researchers and institutional leaders explored priorities for developing and implementing Gender Equality Plans.

At UKZN, discussions focused on putting policy into practice, strengthening women’s representation in senior academic positions, promoting equitable workloads and recognizing care responsibilities. The workshop also showcased UKZN’s Social Justice and Citizenship module and work addressing gender-based violence.

We invite our students, staff, researchers and partners to explore the newsletter and learn how this collaboration is working towards more inclusive and equitable university environments.
